Job Overview
The Canine Handler role involves working closely with a scent detection dog trained to identify bed bugs in residential and commercial properties. This position requires caring for, training, and interpreting signals from the dog to conduct thorough inspections accurately.
Key Duties
- Communicate the inspection process clearly to customers and demonstrate bed bug detection capabilities.
- Perform comprehensive property inspections to detect bed bugs.
- Guide and manage the dog during inspection activities.
- Maintain the dog’s grooming, training, and readiness for inspection tasks.
- Care for the dog during non-working hours, which includes feeding, training, grooming, exercise, and scheduling veterinary visits to ensure health and safety.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions using company-provided protective clothing.
- Use personal protective equipment such as OSHA-compliant respirators safely.
- Operate and maintain a company vehicle and ensure all equipment cleanliness and safety.
Candidate Requirements
- Must have a clean-shaven face for proper respirator fitting.
- Hold a high school diploma, GED, or possess relevant experience or training equivalent to education.
- Experience working with dogs is required.
- Successful completion of background screening is mandatory.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and meet motor vehicle record criteria; company vehicle and fuel card supplied.
- Have off-street parking available for the company vehicle.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday, with Saturdays as needed.
- Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication capabilities to engage with both internal teams and clients.
- Basic math skills for measurements and product mixing instructions.
- Possess any licenses or certifications required by applicable laws; these will be provided.
- Experience in customer service is preferred.
