Role Overview

The Junior AI Integration Engineer role involves close collaboration with diverse business units to identify pain points and develop AI-based solutions. You will create and deploy AI tools, including knowledge bots, automation agents, and reporting systems, impacting daily operations across multiple sectors of the company. This position offers hands-on responsibility from the outset and requires working with teams across New Zealand, China, and the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead intensive, week-long sprints with departments to observe processes, pinpoint automation opportunities, develop proofs of concept, and transition solutions to production teams.
• Create AI-driven tools such as RAG systems, data analysis agents, and custom web applications.
• Integrate AI applications with business data sources by developing semantic models for easier querying of data warehouses like Databricks and MCP.
• Manage deployment infrastructures using Terraform, AWS, and implement modern continuous integration and delivery methodologies.
• Design and maintain retrieval augmented generation frameworks focusing on document processing, chunking, retrieval optimization, and knowledge management across teams.
• Conduct interactive workshops to train team members ranging from beginners to proficient users in AI technologies.
• Mentor internal AI Champions and contribute to a shared repository of AI skills, templates, and instructional content.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficient in writing and reading code in Python and JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Experienced in utilizing AI programming assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
• Demonstrated ability to develop AI workflow systems.
• Strong understanding of modern Large Language Models (LLMs) capabilities, including agents, tool integrations, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), context engineering, and structured data outputs.
• Capability to analyze complex business operations and translate them into automated processes.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and present technical details to non-technical staff and senior leaders.
• A builder mindset, emphasizing scalable and replicable solutions beyond temporary fixes.
• Proven track record of taking projects from initial discovery through to functional prototypes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Terraform, AWS, or equivalent cloud infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with data pipeline creation or semantic data layer tools like dbt.
• Hands-on exposure to vector databases, embeddings, or document retrieval systems.
• Participation in hackathons, side projects, or open-source contributions.
• Prior involvement in end-to-end project development, whether academic, personal, or professional.
