Job description
About ZURU
ZURU is dedicated to revolutionizing various industries through breakthrough innovation and automation. The company operates across multiple sectors: ZURU Toys reshapes play experiences; ZURU Tech pioneers advancements in building technologies; and ZURU Edge develops next-generation FMCG brands tailored for modern consumers. Founded in 2003 by brothers Nick and Mat Mowbray, recognized entrepreneurs, ZURU has expanded to a team of over 5,000 members worldwide across more than 30 locations. Notable brands include Bunch O Balloons, Mini Brands, XSHOT, Rainbocorns, Smashers, MONDAY Haircare, Rascals, NOOD, BONKERS, and Gumi Yum Surprise.
Role Overview
This role entails creating software exclusively for ZURU's internal teams within specific business units rather than a central engineering department. The engineer takes end-to-end ownership of distinct problems — from initial conversations with stakeholders to delivering working production solutions. There is a collaborative approach with business owners defining goals alongside the engineer, eliminating traditional specification handoffs. External product engineering is managed by a different team; this role focuses entirely on internal applications.
Expected Impact and Goals
- Within six months, the engineer should be able to quickly determine project feasibility with business input (within 5 days), have deployed at least one application to its intended users, and maintain no more than three ongoing non-graduated apps.
- After one year, the engineer's efforts contribute to reducing the Group's request-to-live cycle time, with applications demonstrating consistent weekly active usage and properly transitioning through their lifecycle stages.
Who You Are
You possess the ability to collaborate closely with finance, sales, or operations teams to deeply understand their workflows. You effectively manage AI coding assistants, evaluating their output critically, and focus on delivering fully functional software rather than prototypes. You have experience building software used by others. Engineering tenure is not strictly required; candidates from business backgrounds who can direct coding agents per established standards are encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage directly within business units to uncover and document implicit workflows and manual processes.
- Achieve clear Go/No-Go decisions with stakeholders rapidly (within five days).
- Develop code adhering to existing internal tooling standards that integrate automated checks from the outset.
- Maintain end-to-end ownership over applications until they are formally graduated or transitioned.
- Guide AI coding agents effectively, judging generated code quality rather than beginning from scratch.
- Use governed data products and standardized platforms, reporting any gaps rather than bypassing them.
- Ensure applications are reproducible, documented, and monitored with defined service level objectives and appropriate alerting.
- Limit to holding no more than three non-graduated applications simultaneously.
Required Skills & Experience
- Ability to collaborate with finance, sales, or operations teams to understand their actual processes.
- Proficiency in directing AI coding agents and assessing their results critically.
- Competence in reading, reasoning about, and delivering production-quality code.
- Track record of building software that other users rely on.
- Open to candidates from business units; extensive engineering experience is not mandatory.
Life at ZURU
ZURU fosters a dynamic and high-achieving work culture focused on learning, performance, and enjoyment. Founded in 2003, the company spans divisions in toys, consumer goods, and technology. Employees are encouraged to take responsibility for their career growth, supported by a fast-expanding company with unique opportunities.

- Culture supporting personal and professional growth.
- Comprehensive health benefits.
- Access to global development opportunities.
- Collaborative environment with top talent.
- Competitive salary packages.
- Additional perks including fresh fruit, coffee, and social snacks in the office.
