Java Software Engineer

Overview

This role requires a highly skilled Java Software Engineer to design and implement scalable, stable, and robust Java/Kotlin-based systems within a banking or financial sector context. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing complex legacy defects, developing applications using cutting-edge technologies, and collaborating effectively within Agile teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate technical challenges clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Deliver high-quality Java/Kotlin software solutions using EJB, Spring Boot, MySQL, Oracle, and IBM MQ.
• Analyze business and system needs and translate them into scalable and stable technical implementations.
• Diagnose and resolve complex legacy issues that others cannot solve.
• Adhere strictly to organizational standards on code quality, security, and performance.
• Engage passionately in technology to build robust and scalable systems.
• Design, code, and implement sophisticated custom applications.
• Work collaboratively within Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Extreme Programming.
• Manage and resolve production issues coolly and efficiently to maintain system stability.

Regulatory and Risk Management Duties

• Manage conflicts of interest and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

Skills and Qualifications

• Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Effective in driving projects to meet timelines and overcome obstacles.
• Translate functional requirements into efficient, appropriate technical solutions.
• Finance, banking, or public sector experience is preferred.
• Core expertise in Java/Kotlin programming and JUnit testing.
• Proficiency in Spring Boot framework and core Spring concepts.
• Solid computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and OOP designs.
• Test-Driven Development (TDD) capabilities and experience writing acceptance tests.
• Basic Linux shell scripting skills.
• Experience with Java Messaging Services such as JMS and MQ.
• Strong knowledge of relational database concepts, SQL (joins, indexes, triggers), and query optimization.
• Working knowledge of RESTful and SOAP web services.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, AWS cloud services including CI/CD and containerization.
• Comfortable using IntelliJ IDEA, Git version control, and SonarQube/SonarLint for code quality assurance.
• Desirable skills include experience with JBOSS or other application servers, Java Server Faces, JPA, EJB, Kafka, and React JS.
• Excellent communication skills, strong work ethics, punctuality, problem-solving skills, and ability to collaborate as a team player.
