Java Software Engineer

About the Role

Tech Aalto is seeking a technically proficient Java Software Engineer based in Singapore for a contract position on-site. The role involves developing and delivering scalable, stable, and robust Java-based systems alongside a collaborative team in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
• Establish a reputation within the organization for solving challenging problems that others find difficult.
• Develop and deploy solutions using Java/Kotlin, EJB, Spring Boot, MySQL, Oracle, and IBM MQ technologies.
• Translate business and system requirements into scalable and fit-for-purpose technical implementations.
• Tackle and resolve intricate legacy defects beyond the scope of average developers.
• Ensure compliance with banking standards concerning code quality, security, and performance.
• Demonstrate passion for technology and build robust, scalable Java systems.
• Analyze, design, code, and implement complex custom-built applications.
• Function well in an Agile framework, such as Scrum or Extreme Programming.
• Investigate and resolve production issues to maintain a stable production environment, performing effectively under pressure.
• Exhibit integrity, due diligence, fairness, compliance with laws and regulations, and manage risks proactively.
• Take ownership to identify and manage risks and issues, driving stakeholders to deliver quality results on schedule.

Technical and Professional Requirements

• Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Influence project progress to meet timelines and resolve obstacles efficiently.
• Translate functional requirements into efficient technical solutions.
• Preferably have experience in financial, banking, or public sector domains.
• Strong knowledge of Core Java, Kotlin, and JUnit.
• Experience with Spring Boot framework.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented design.
• Practiced in Test-Driven Development and able to write acceptance tests.
• Familiarity with basic Linux shell scripting commands.
• Knowledge of Java Messaging concepts including JMS and IBM MQ.
• Solid grasp of relational database concepts including SQL, joins, indexes, and triggers.
• Experience working with REST and SOAP web services.
• Understanding of Spring core concepts.
• Proficient in SQL query optimization techniques.
• Basic experience with DevOps practices and AWS cloud services including CI/CD and containerization.
• Competent using development tools such as IntelliJ IDEA, Git, and SonarQube/SonarLint.
• Desirable but not required: experience with JBOSS or other application servers, Java Server Faces, JPA, EJB, Kafka, and React JS.
