Java Developer

About the Role

Auto & General is seeking skilled Java Developers at various experience levels, from junior to experienced professionals, to join their dynamic and innovative teams in Brisbane. Developers will play a crucial role in crafting premium digital experiences for customers, enabling seamless online management and purchase of insurance policies. Additionally, the role supports critical internal applications for staff to maintain essential business functions.

Developers will primarily work within agile, cross-functional teams focused on building resilient Java microservices deployed on AWS. These teams are supported by dedicated Product Owners and Scrum Masters, following agile workflows and utilizing modern DevOps continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop tailored solutions that meet sprint objectives and deliver business value.
• Lead architecture and solution design initiatives, contributing to a modern technology stack.
• Enhance the CI/CD pipeline and improve AWS deployment processes.
• Take ownership of the product lifecycle with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
• Implement and uphold best practices for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Collaborate effectively with agile team members in development, deployment, and operational support activities.
• Perform additional reasonable duties as necessary to support business operations.

Experience and Skills Required

• Minimum of 2 years’ professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java programming language.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and message bus communication patterns.
• Experience working with SQL databases and ORM frameworks.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud technologies.
• Knowledge of application/system monitoring tools.
• Competence in using Atlassian tools including JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

Desirable Skills

• Understanding of deploying applications using Docker and AWS cloud services.
• Awareness of web application security best practices following OWASP standards.
• Experience with GitLab DevOps tools.
• Prior exposure to software development in financial services is advantageous.

The position is based at the Toowong office in Brisbane, offering proximity to public transport and ample parking.
