Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled ITS Engineer to join our team in Riyadh. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the planning, specification, design review, implementation, testing, and oversight of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) deployed throughout Riyadh’s roadways and Traffic Control Center.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze technical specifications, design criteria, drawings, equipment requirements, and schedules related to ITS infrastructure and systems.
• Assess contractor and consultant design submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, system architecture, standards, and operational needs.
• Support the design and deployment of systems including CCTV, vehicle detection, radar, video analytics, dynamic message signs/variable message signs, communications, field cabinets, power systems, environmental monitoring, and traveler information solutions.
• Examine system architectures, interface controls, network diagrams, device configurations, communication plans, power demands, and equipment lists.
• Conduct site inspections to verify existing conditions such as communications availability, utilities, equipment placement, cabinet space, power supply, visibility, accessibility, and constructability.
• Compile technical comments, review matrices, nonconformance reports, site observations, and engineering recommendations.
• Monitor ITS installation and construction activities, ensuring adherence to approved designs and manufacturer specifications.
• Manage technical integration between ITS components, traffic signals, communication networks, ATMS/iNET platforms, TCC systems, and other stakeholders.
• Review submitted materials such as shop drawings, method statements, installation details, test plans, and commissioning documentation.
• Participate actively in factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, integration testing, commissioning, and operational readiness checks.
• Assist in troubleshooting during construction, testing, and initial operation phases.
• Validate as-built documents, equipment inventories, configuration records, test results, and handover packages prior to system acceptance.
• Contribute to the development of ITS guidelines, specifications, operation and maintenance procedures, implementation frameworks, and technical assessments prepared for Riyadh’s Traffic Control Center (RCRC).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including roadway, traffic signals, communications, cybersecurity, electrical, civil engineering, and TCC operations professionals to resolve interface issues.
• Stay informed on emerging ITS technologies and provide practical suggestions for scalable, interoperable, and maintainable system deployments in Riyadh.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Computer/Systems, Civil/Transportation Engineering or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 7 years’ experience in ITS system design, technical specification development, design review, construction support, system integration, testing, or commissioning.
• Proven expertise with field ITS devices and technologies such as CCTV, detection systems, dynamic message signs, communication networks, cabinets, and power systems.
• Experience preparing or reviewing technical specifications, drawings, shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, and testing documentation.
• Good understanding of ITS communication networks, including fiber optic systems, Ethernet/IP, field cabinets, power distribution, grounding, environmental considerations, and basic cybersecurity principles.
• Knowledge of system integration techniques, interface control, data exchange, and central traffic management systems.
• Capability to perform field inspections assessing installation quality, constructability, compliance, and readiness for operation.
• Strong technical writing skills with the ability to clearly document design remarks, field observations, test results, and required corrective actions.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, equipment datasheets, and system architecture documentation.
• Excellent collaboration and coordination skills across disciplines including civil, electrical, communications, software, and traffic engineering.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Prior experience on ITS projects in Saudi Arabia or the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
• Familiarity with standards such as NTCIP, ONVIF, SNMP, REST/API integration, DATEX II, or other relevant ITS and communication protocols.
• Experience with traffic control centers and software platforms like ATMS, iNET, TransSuite, or equivalents.
• Knowledge of adaptive traffic systems, ramp metering, emergency vehicle preemption, transit signal priority, automated incident detection, or connected vehicle applications.
• Professional engineering certification or ITS/network-related credentials would be advantageous.
• Arabic language proficiency is a plus but not mandatory.
