Job description
Role Overview
The Investment Analyst position supports the efficient management of the Bank's investment portfolio through in-depth analysis and operational assistance. This role involves exploring market investment opportunities specifically through equity companies, ensuring alignment with the Bank's strategic goals. The analyst will help perform due diligence on current and prospective partners and identify synergies to boost Doha Bank's sales efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and report on prospective fund investment opportunities consistent with the Bank’s strategic investment guidelines.
- Provide analytical and operational assistance to enhance returns from equity investments, ensuring adherence to expected risk-return profiles.
- Participate in executing investments into suitable funds that align with the Bank’s investment outlook and financial objectives.
- Assist the Portfolio Manager in managing investment expenditures to improve accountability and transparency of assets.
- Continuously generate a deal flow and project pipeline to match investment strategies and risk considerations, ensuring timely execution and optimal portfolio performance.
- Prepare and execute transactions efficiently, maintaining strict quality control and timely transfer of funds.
- Manage deal transactions by providing necessary documentation and accounting information to the finance department for accurate accounts preparation.
- Coordinate with Treasury and Settlement Operations to confirm and settle deals promptly.
- Support daily verification and reconciliation of outstanding items in Doha Bank’s NOSTRO accounts versus system/manual entries.
- Disseminate knowledge on global best market practices and emerging trends in target sectors to the team and department.
- Comply with audit, compliance requirements, and procedural controls set by management.
- Respond efficiently to stakeholder queries or escalate issues to supervisors as appropriate.
- Produce timely periodic and ad-hoc reports detailing unit activities as requested by reporting authorities.
- Maintain confidentiality, uphold professional ethics, and act with integrity throughout service delivery.
- Provide accurate investment-related information to internal and external auditors and compliance teams upon request.
- Prepare quarterly assessments of broker performance operating across various financial markets and sectors, advising management accordingly.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders to source input on alternative asset investment opportunities, nurturing the investment pipeline and managing the Bank's investment program.
- Conduct financial, commercial, risk, tax, and legal due diligence on existing investments, recommending suitable actions based on findings.
- Support in drafting investment proposals to secure approvals from designated Committees.
- Develop presentations for internal and external audiences; maintain management information systems related to profitability and revenue consistent with regulatory mandates.
- Adhere strictly to the profession’s codes of conduct, ethics, and integrity standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Banking, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
- A Master's degree in Management or related discipline is advantageous.
- CFA or an equivalent professional qualification is beneficial.
Professional Experience
- Between 6 to 10 years of total experience within the financial services or banking sector focused on related investment disciplines.
- Specific experience in equity investments within the banking industry is crucial.
Core Competencies
- Comprehensive understanding of investment allocation strategies across bonds, equities, and balanced portfolios, including asset class diversification, geographic exposure, and currency considerations.
- Knowledge of equity portfolio management objectives and investment characteristics.
- Ability to evaluate portfolio risk and return metrics like holding period returns, total returns, standard deviation, and volatility.
- Familiarity with risk mitigation strategies including correlation, diversification, active/passive management, hedging, and immunization.
- Expertise in structuring, negotiating, and monitoring equity transactions.
- Financial modeling proficiency.
- Skill in identifying trading opportunities appropriately aligned with client profiles and risk appetites.
- Understanding of brokerage operations and capabilities to execute and monitor trade orders until settlement.
- Ability to prepare performance reports for brokers.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools.
- Strong logical reasoning and analytical capabilities.
- Effective business writing skills.
