About the Role
Join Old Mutual South Africa in shaping Africa's future through diverse talent as an Internal Motor Assessor. This role involves managing motor insurance claims specifically related to leakage by accurately evaluating damages, detecting fraud, and ensuring efficient and cost-conscious settlements that comply with company norms and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and confirm the accuracy of all motor assessment reports before approving repairs, ensuring appropriate valuation of vehicles before accidents and adherence to policy terms.
- Conduct timely initial inspections of reported accidents and follow-up inspections post-repair within designated areas to verify repair quality and completion.
- Improve recovery outcomes by accurately valuing salvage parts, collaborating with disposal agents, and initiating claims against third parties when applicable.
- Consistently liaise with internal teams to provide expert advice on rightful settlement alternatives for motor claims.
- Detect and report falsely exaggerated, fabricated, or non-related damages; adjust repair costs to reflect fair market prices.
- Evaluate garages, assessors, and other suppliers regularly on pricing, repair turnaround times, quality, and integrity, recommending changes to approved panels as necessary.
- Deliver timely, well-supported technical assistance relating to vehicle repairs, parts availability, and claim resolution to claims staff, underwriting teams, and management.
- Compile periodic reports addressing customer satisfaction, repair expenditures, salvage worth, service provider effectiveness, and market pricing trends for vehicles.
- Guarantee that all assessments and suggestions meet national traffic and insurance regulations as well as internal company policies.
Deliverables
- Detailed and prompt reports on repair costs backed with supporting rationale.
- Negotiated discounts and savings achieved through engagement with service providers.
- Verified follow-up inspections of repairs documenting quality of workmanship and parts.
- Rapid on-site assessments of newly reported accident cases.
- Salvage and recovery documentation confirming enhanced returns and lowered net claims expenses.
Compliance Responsibilities
The incumbent must ensure strict adherence to compliance standards including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and sanctions policies. Responsibilities include executing customer due diligence as per Know-Your-Customer (KYC) protocols, monitoring for suspicious activities or breaches, and escalating potential risks to the Risk and Compliance Office.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficient knowledge of motor vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and valuation.
- Ability to analyze motor vehicle damage accurately.

Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field with focus on automotive engineering.
- Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Insurance - mandatory.
- Diploma in Insurance (such as ITC or CII) - advantageous.
- Certificate in Loss Adjustment (CILA) - beneficial but not required.

A minimum of three years' relevant experience in a related industry is required.
