About March Networks

March Networks is a renowned global leader in video surveillance, serving large retailers and banking institutions worldwide. The company fosters a positive work culture focused on flexibility, work-life balance, and career growth opportunities.

Role Overview

We are hiring an Intermediate Software Developer for our global Developer Experience and Release Engineering team located in Ottawa. This position involves modernizing and enhancing the developer experience within our build and release environments, managing release lifecycles for flagship applications, and transitioning existing Jenkins-based systems to a hybrid CI/CD platform that includes on-premise and cloud infrastructure. Key efforts include improving artifact management, integrating contemporary software lifecycle tools, and ensuring efficient, well-governed releases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist development teams in migrating from Bitbucket Server and traditional Jenkins build servers to GitHub and GitHub Actions with hosted and self-hosted runners, maintaining seamless operations.
  • Enhance processes for artifact storage and retrieval.
  • Design, deploy, and sustain cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Monitor system performance, optimize costs, and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (development, QA, product) to deliver timely and high-quality major (2-3 annually) and maintenance releases.
  • Refine release governance, workflow documentation, and pursue automation where feasible.
  • Ensure adherence to internal and external audit standards.
  • Manage and maintain tools related to IDEs, AI developer integrations (e.g., MCP), issue tracking, code quality, security scanning, software composition analysis, artifact management, and multi-cloud VM management.
  • Integrate CI/CD pipelines with various software tools and provide business-hours support addressing build failures, access issues, and tool-related inquiries.
  • Stay abreast of evolving cloud technologies and recommend improvements to tooling and infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Developer Experience, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or similar roles.
  • Proficiency with GitHub Actions, GitHub migration, and Git workflows.
  • Experience managing CI/CD pipelines across hybrid setups: Jenkins on Windows/Linux and GitHub Actions on hosted/self-hosted runners including AWS EKS.
  • Knowledge of mixed Linux and Windows self-hosted runner environments.
  • Strong skills in containerization, specifically Docker.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and Helm.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid VM lifecycle/provisioning tools such as HPE Morpheus supporting AWS and on-prem infrastructure.
  • Competency in AWS IAM management including users, groups, roles, and policies.
  • Practical use of software lifecycle tools and release management in multi-application contexts.
  • Understanding CI/CD best practices and Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Scripting proficiency in Python, PowerShell, and Bash.
  • Comfort with leveraging AI technologies for software development.
  • Completion of a College or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Interest or experience in constructing on-premise self-hosted runners with Linux and Windows.
  • Familiarity with SOC2 compliance or comparable security frameworks.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability systems such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • AWS certifications like Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect are advantageous.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to handle several priorities efficiently.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-evolving environment.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with independence and initiative-taking.
  • Continuous improvement orientation with a passion for innovative problem resolution.
