Overview

WorkSafe Victoria is seeking individuals for a full-time, permanent Inspector role based in the Millewa-Mallee/Mildura region. The position offers an annual salary of $118,066 plus 12% superannuation, with an initial 16-week paid training program at the full salary rate. The role involves using your professional background to enhance workplace safety and ensure legal compliance across diverse industries in Victoria.

Role Responsibilities

• Conduct workplace inspections to evaluate compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
• Investigate incidents, identify hazards, and address safety concerns in various work environments.
• Provide practical advice and support to employers and workers to promote safer work practices.
• Drive positive safety outcomes through influence and stakeholder engagement.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with relevant parties.
• Enforce regulatory actions when necessary to ensure safety standards are met.
• Contribute broadly to improving safety standards across Victorian workplaces.

Candidate Profile

• Experience in sectors such as trades, manufacturing, transport, logistics, healthcare, construction, agriculture, government, engineering, or safety-related fields.
• Application of systems thinking in professional tasks.
• Excellent critical thinking, analytical problem-solving abilities, and sound decision-making under pressure.
• Strong skills in influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
• Effective verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Competency in interpreting and applying legislation, standards, or technical data.
• Comfortable and confident with modern technology and computer systems.
• Qualifications in occupational health and safety, compliance, trade, technical disciplines, or equivalent industry experience are advantageous but not mandatory.
• A strong commitment to positively impacting workplace safety outcomes.

Recruitment and Training Process

• Applications close on Monday, 14th September at 11:00 pm.
• Selection includes online video interviews, cognitive and psychometric assessments in late September.
• Panel interviews are scheduled for October and November.
• Police, reference, and medical checks occur between November and December.
• Offers and contract sending in December, with employment commencing in February.
• A structured 16-week paid induction/training starting Monday, 8th February, involving attendance three days per week at Essendon Fields office and two days at the local office.

Additional Information

• Successful candidates will enroll in a Diploma of Government as part of their development.
• Information sessions are available virtually on Tuesday 8th September at 5:30 pm and Thursday 10th September at 12:30 pm.
• Applicants must hold a valid, unrestricted Victorian driver’s license and be available for all recruitment and training activities.
• Applicants must clear National Criminal History, reference, and medical checks.
• Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
