Position Overview

WorkSafe Victoria invites applications for the role of Inspector based in Bunurong/Mulgrave. This full-time, permanent position offers an annual salary of $118,066 plus 12% superannuation and includes 16 weeks of paid training at full salary. The role focuses on enhancing workplace safety across Victoria by utilizing your previous industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of workplaces to assess compliance with occupational health and safety laws.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, hazards, and safety concerns.
  • Offer practical advice and guidance to employers and employees to improve safety standards.
  • Drive positive changes to workplace safety through influence and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Enforce regulatory measures as necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Contribute broadly to the improvement of workplace safety across the state.

Candidate Profile

  • Background in any sector such as trades, manufacturing, transport, logistics, healthcare, construction, agriculture, government, engineering, safety, or related fields.
  • Proficient in systems thinking applied through experience or practice.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.
  • Confident in making well-informed decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, standards, or technical information accurately.
  • Comfortable using technology and various computer systems.
  • Desirable qualifications include diplomas or certifications in occupational health and safety, compliance, trades, technical disciplines, or related industry experience, though not mandatory.
  • A genuine passion for enhancing workplace safety and protecting workers.

Recruitment and Training Details

  • Applications close at 11:00pm on Monday 14th September.
  • Selection process includes online video interviews, cognitive and psychometric assessments in late September, followed by panel interviews in October and November.
  • Candidates must pass national criminal history, reference, and medical checks between November and December.
  • Job offers and contracts are expected in December, with employment commencing in February.
  • A comprehensive 16-week paid induction program begins Monday 8th February, requiring presence three days weekly at Essendon Fields office and two days at the local office.
  • Successful candidates will be enrolled in a Diploma of Government as part of professional development.
