Position Summary

The role of Inspector I - Quality (Electrical Inspector) involves thorough inspection and testing of electrical installations and equipment to ensure compliance with standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections and testing of temporary electrical installations and camp connections as needed.
• Verify support installations before cable tray placement.
• Inspect cable tray and conduit installations prior to cable laying release.
• Inspect underground stub ups, cable trenches, dimensions, sand bedding before cable laying and at each cable layer release.
• Monitor cable jointing and termination following manufacturer guidelines.
• Examine cable segregation before trench backfilling.
• Inspect cable glanding, termination, and dressing processes.
• Witness insulation resistance and continuity tests on cables at multiple stages including on drum, post-laying, pre-backfill, and post-termination phases.
• Observe High Potential (Hi-pot) tests on cables.
• Inspect final torquing procedures on cable terminations.
• Supervise installation of cable tray covers.
• Oversee equipment installation at substations ensuring adherence to manufacturer recommendations.
• Monitor preservation of switchgears, transformers, bus ducts, and related equipment.
• Inspect switchgear alignment and location.
• Witness torquing and doctor testing of bus bar joints.
• Observe insulation resistance (IR) and high potential tests of bus bars as applicable.
• Supervise various switchgear tests including IR, Hi-pot, ductor, and operational tests.
• Witness transformer oil dielectric and insulation resistance testing.
• Conduct inspections of transformers, switchgears, MCCs, and other equipment at project completion.
• Inspect bus duct installation and witness related torquing and testing (ductor/IR).
• Inspect batteries, chargers, UPS systems and witness battery charging/discharging tests where applicable.
• Examine underground earth cable installation, cad weld joints prior to backfilling.
• Inspect installations of earth electrodes and earthing systems.
• Witness earth resistance tests of electrodes and networks, earth loop resistance, and continuity tests.
• Inspect building lightning protection systems.
• Perform final earthing system inspections.
• Inspect positioning of lighting fixtures, socket outlets, and junction boxes for appropriate application.
• Oversee site routed lighting cable tray installations and release for cable laying.
• Inspect distribution board installation and witness insulation resistance tests.
• Witness IR and continuity tests of lighting circuits and conduct functional and illumination level tests where applicable.
• Monitor motor preservation activities and inspect motor installations including glanding, termination, and earthing.
• Witness motor insulation resistance and polarization index tests.
• Inspect local control station installations and witness their functional tests connected to substations.
• Witness motor solo run testing (2 hours for LV motors, 4 hours for MV/HV motors) when applicable.
• Inspect thermite welding on underground pipes and witness cable continuity tests.
• Inspect installations related to cathodic protection such as magnesium anodes, reference electrodes, anode ribbons, and crossings.
• Witness various inspection and testing of cathodic protection systems before and after backfilling.
• Inspect installation of CP transformers and rectifiers.
• Inspect heat tracing circuits and associated components and witness their testing prior to insulation and after cladding.
• Witness inspection and testing related to equipment such as diesel generators and HVAC systems.
• Supervise inspection and testing for overhead power distribution and transmission lines.
• Perform detailed initial inspections of certified electrical equipment following IEC 60079-17 (tables 1,2,3) and IEC 60079-14 standards or perform visual inspections as needed.
• Interpret equipment labels and IP Ratings correctly and verify that IP Ratings are maintained.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience working as an Electrical Quality Control Inspector.
• Experience within the oil & gas or petrochemical sectors is required.
• Previous employment with major EPC contractors or their subcontractors is preferred.
• For Hazardous Area Electrical Inspections: Must possess relevant training in types of protection, installation practices, and standards IEC 60079-17 and IEC 60079-14, with documented evidence. If not trained, in-house training (PEC-RCD-00384) must be completed before undertaking Ex-Inspections.
