About the Role
WorkSafe Victoria invites experienced professionals from various industries to join as Inspectors, dedicated to advancing workplace safety across Victoria. This full-time, ongoing position based in Eastern Maar/Warrnambool offers $118,066 per annum plus 12% superannuation, including 16 weeks of fully paid training. The role involves regulating workplace health and safety by conducting inspections, investigating hazards, and assisting organizations to comply with safety laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct workplace inspections to evaluate compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Investigate incidents, hazards, and safety concerns thoroughly.
- Offer practical guidance and support to employers and workers to enhance safety.
- Promote and influence improvements in workplace safety standards.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Take regulatory actions when necessary to enforce safety compliance.
- Contribute toward creating safer working environments throughout Victoria.
Candidate Profile
Applicants from varied industrial sectors are encouraged to apply, including those with backgrounds in trades, manufacturing, transport, healthcare, government, engineering, agriculture, logistics, safety, and operations. Ideal candidates possess a systems-thinking approach with demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong skills in decision-making under pressure, negotiation, conflict resolution, communication, and legislative interpretation are essential. Proficiency with technology and computer systems is required. Credentials in occupational health and safety, compliance, trades or technical fields are advantageous but not mandatory. A genuine commitment to improving workplace safety is paramount.
Recruitment and Training
- Application deadline: Monday, 14th September at 11:00 PM.
- Selection stages include online video interviews, cognitive and psychometric assessments, panel interviews, and background checks conducted between September and December.
- Employment begins in February, followed by a 16-week paid induction program involving attendance at the Essendon Fields office three days weekly and the local Warrnambool office two days weekly.
- New Inspectors must enroll in a Diploma of Government during their training.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must hold a valid, unrestricted Victorian Driver's Licence.
- Available to participate fully in recruitment steps and training schedule.
- Successful completion of National Criminal History, reference, and medical evaluations.
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or permanent residency status.
