About JBS Food Canada

JBS Food Canada ULC is one of the nation's top beef processors, employing around 3,300 people across four locations. The primary processing plant in Brooks, Alberta handles the slaughter and processing of about 4,200 cattle daily, producing a variety of beef products like boxed primal cuts, ground beef, trimmings, by-products, and hides distributed both nationally and internationally. Additional facilities in Calgary produce value-added and case-ready meats, while the Belleville plant focuses on fresh meat and seafood for major Canadian retailers.

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Industrial Meat Cutter to join our Brooks facility team. This role involves cutting beef carcasses into primal cuts, deboning meat using saws and other tools, and preparing specific meat cuts for various wholesale uses. Candidates must be willing to work in varied environments including cold, hot, humid, and noisy settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process beef quarters into primal cuts suitable for further cutting and packaging.
  • Debone meat carefully using appropriate cutting tools such as knives and saws.
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and mesh gloves.
  • Operate safely within environments involving animal blood and various carcass parts.

Candidate Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Completion of an industrial meat cutting program or 1 to 2 years of industrial butchery experience.
  • Basic proficiency in English communication.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Tasks are repetitive and physically demanding, requiring strength and dexterity.
  • Working conditions may include standing for long periods, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Exposure to noisy surroundings, odors, and temperature variations from hot to refrigerated.

  • Applicants may be subjected to drug and alcohol testing; employment offers are contingent on passing these tests.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers competitive starting wages between $23.35 and $29.70 per hour for a 40-hour workweek under a collective agreement. This is a permanent, full-time role with shift schedules.
