Industrial Electrical Technician

Key Responsibilities

• Execute electrical repairs including breakdowns along with preventative and corrective maintenance on production and site machinery.
• Diagnose issues and restore functionality for motors, sensors, safety devices, and industrial control systems.
• Handle installation, upkeep, and calibration of electrical hardware.
• Maintain detailed records of labor, work orders, and parts through computerized maintenance management systems such as Mainpac.
• Assist in predictive maintenance and condition monitoring efforts.
• Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), variable speed drives (VSDs), and automation equipment.
• Contribute to the commissioning and integration of new control systems and plant equipment.
• Ensure all electrical schematics and drawings are accurate and regularly updated.
• Utilize Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or similar PLC software when applicable.
• Follow strict safety protocols including safe isolation and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) practices consistently.
• Comply with food safety, quality standards, and statutory requirements, including those set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF).
• Recognize hazards, engage in risk evaluations, and escalate safety concerns appropriately.
• Support sustainability goals by promoting efficient usage of energy, water, and waste materials.
• Collaborate closely with fitters, technicians, engineers, and production staff to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and project teams to provide electrical and control system support.
• Participate actively in continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives.
• Offer mentorship and training to apprentices as required.

Candidate Profile

• Must possess a current practicing license as an NZ EWRB Registered Electrician.
• Experience in industrial electrical environments is essential, preferably within FMCG or manufacturing sectors.
• Strong ability to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently.
• Well-versed with sensors, machine timing, safety systems, and automation processes.
• Competent in computer use, including MS Office, CMMS platforms, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
• Capable of working both independently and collaboratively under pressure.
• Familiarity with Rockwell or equivalent PLC and automation software is required.
• Holds or equivalent to NZQA Level 4 Electrical Engineering qualification.
• LOTO certification preferred or willingness to complete within the first month of employment.
• Possesses a current, clean New Zealand Driver's License.
• Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Dedication to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Ability to support continuous 24/7 operations.
• Eligibility to work legally in New Zealand with full working rights.
