This role involves cross-functional partnerships with finance, product, and engineering divisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an expert on global VAT/GST related to indirect taxes, supporting Stripe's business and finance teams with tax planning and operational matters.
- Advise on indirect tax implications for Stripe's international market expansions and new product rollouts.
- Engage in discussions and policies influencing international indirect taxation.
- Collaborate with compliance teams and accounting on VAT/GST adherence and help improve compliance procedures.
- Manage communication and resolution of indirect tax audits and other tax authority interactions worldwide.
- Work with product and engineering teams to establish requirements and design tax-related solutions.
- Promote awareness of indirect tax issues company-wide through training and updates on legislative and procedural changes.
- Explain complex indirect tax topics clearly to non-tax specialists at various organizational levels.
Candidate Profile
Minimum Qualifications
- Between 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in indirect tax, especially with VAT/GST regulations.
- A bachelor's degree and a recognized professional tax or legal qualification (e.g., CTA, ACA, AITI, ATT, or equivalent).
- Prior experience working in-house at multinational firms alongside experience in legal or accounting practices.
- Knowledge of indirect taxation related to both digital service distribution and physical product sales.
- Experience with accounting principles, ERP systems, and data analysis tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage with management across levels.
- Strong project management aptitude, with attention to detail and ownership of complex assignments.
- Capacity to interpret data analytically and provide well-founded recommendations.
- Comfort operating within dynamic, informal, and occasionally ambiguous environments.
- Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degrees such as an LLM in Tax or MSc in Accounting.
- Background in technology, payment systems, or financial services sectors.
- Experience in fast-growth or rapidly scaling companies.
- A passion for working in a curious, close-knit tax team dedicated to Stripe’s unique tax challenges.
Workplace Expectation
Most employees are expected to spend at least half their working time onsite each month; some roles and teams require full onsite attendance depending on operational needs, especially for supporting users and workflows. This approach balances face-to-face collaboration with flexible working arrangements.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role in the primary location (Dublin) is between €69,400 and €104,200 annually, varying by location and individual qualifications. Compensation may include base salary, bonuses or commissions, equity, retirement plans, health benefits, and wellness stipends. Specific details will be shared during the interview process.
