Hygiene Advisor - Tiwai

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist to take charge of and enhance the workplace exposure monitoring initiatives at NZAS, ensuring compliance with New Zealand laws and Rio Tinto's global health protocols. This permanent position is based at Tiwai Point, Invercargill, and offers relocation assistance. The role requires a technically proficient and inquisitive professional eager to own occupational hygiene systems and influence positive health outcomes for the workforce.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and direct the comprehensive workplace exposure monitoring program, focusing on airborne contaminants, noise, thermal stress, ergonomics, biological, and chemical exposures.
• Create and implement effective monitoring plans utilizing both personal and static sampling methods.
• Interpret collected exposure data, offering insightful and clear analyses.
• Ensure all activities comply with applicable New Zealand legislation and Rio Tinto’s health standards.
• Provide expert advice on practical controls, including engineering solutions, administrative measures, and personal protective equipment.
• Support improvements in health systems and monitor contractor compliance and performance.

Candidate Profile

• Strong dedication to personal and team safety.
• Proven experience in occupational hygiene or a closely related field.
• Excellent analytical capabilities.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Relevant qualifications in health, science, or engineering disciplines.

Compensation and Benefits

• Attractive salary range between NZD 108,545 and NZD 118,000, including an annual short-term incentive plan.
• 40-hour workweek with flexible scheduling options such as a nine-day fortnight.
