Hydrovac Operator - Telecom Construction

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Hydrovac Operator with a solid background in utility maintenance and construction projects, specifically within the telecommunications sector. The ideal candidate is skilled in safely performing daylighting, trenching, and excavation around utilities, ensuring accurate and efficient work while maintaining the highest safety standards. Your role will involve managing complex project sites and handling sensitive utility infrastructures confidently.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out daylighting and soft excavation for telecommunications, hydro, and gas utilities.
• Prioritize health and safety by adhering to company policies, CVOR regulations, and demonstrating safe practices consistently.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, perform routine maintenance, and maintain cleanliness to ensure the Hydrovac equipment operates properly.
• Complete all necessary daily paperwork and documentation accurately.
• Set up and verify grounding and bonding procedures during Hydrovac operations.
• Work effectively in confined spaces as required.
• Handle construction materials, including loading and unloading vehicles, and keep job sites clear of debris.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proven previous experience operating a Hydrovac vehicle.
• Experience in telecommunications is advantageous.
• Possess and maintain a valid DZ or AZ driver’s license.
• Maintain a clean driver’s abstract and CVOR certification.
• Successfully complete all pre-employment requirements.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

• Meet the physical demands of the role, including sitting, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Adapt to outdoor working environments in all weather conditions, such as rain, snow, and heat.
• Willingness to travel to various sites around Ottawa, Ontario.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this role ranges from $34.11 to $42.51. Pay rates are determined based on trade certification, apprenticeship level, relevant industry experience, and work location.

Remote or site-based roles may qualify for additional benefits, including travel and accommodation allowances.
