About the Role
Join a dedicated national water team as a Hydrology, Stormwater & Flooding Engineer, primarily based in Wellington or Christchurch, with options for other locations where we operate. Your role will involve planning, analyzing, and designing solutions related to hydrology, stormwater, and flood management across various infrastructure and advisory projects. Working within interdisciplinary teams, you'll assist in project delivery while enhancing your technical skills and professional judgement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering diverse infrastructure and advisory projects through phases of planning, investigation, modeling, and design.
- Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses including catchment modeling and flood risk assessments.
- Contribute to the design of stormwater systems, flood risk mitigation, and comprehensive water management strategies.
- Build and maintain strong business relationships with current and prospective clients to ensure project goals and high client satisfaction.
- Produce high-quality reports, correspondence, and related project deliverables.
- Engage in both office-based and site activities, collaborating with virtual teams nationally and internationally.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to graduate engineers on projects, supporting their development.
Candidate Profile
We seek a motivated professional with at least four years of experience in hydrology, stormwater, or flood modeling within consulting or infrastructure sectors. You possess a strong technical grounding combined with curiosity, collaboration, and accountability. You are committed to producing outcomes that benefit communities and safeguard the environment.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience in hydrology, stormwater, or flood modeling.
- Proficient with hydrological and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks, Tuflow, or equivalents.
- Familiarity with New Zealand's standards, guidelines, and regulatory frameworks concerning stormwater and flood management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities alongside attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines efficiently.
- A proactive approach with ownership mentality for tasks and projects.
- Self-driven and energetic in work ethic.
- Adaptable and flexible when facing challenges.
Work Environment
This role operates under a hybrid model, requiring physical presence in the office three days a week to foster collaboration and connection within a dynamic culture.
