Hydraulic Mechanic

Job Overview

The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and drilling equipment associated with mining and drilling operations. The mechanic plays a key role in ensuring equipment is safe, operational, and available by conducting troubleshooting and upkeep activities.

Core Responsibilities

• Identify and fix issues in diesel engines on heavy machinery and drilling rigs.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic components such as pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders.
• Maintain and repair drilling machinery, compressors, and ancillary equipment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance procedures on drill rigs.
• Diagnose fuel system faults involving injectors, fuel pumps, and filters.
• Inspect and service hydraulic apparatus to address overheating, low pressure, and abnormal flow.
• Handle emergency and field breakdown repairs.
• Replace degraded parts including seals, bearings, and hydraulic lines.
• Interpret hydraulic and mechanical schematics correctly.
• Keep accurate service and maintenance documentation.
• Adhere strictly to safety standards and operational guidelines in all tasks.

Required Skills and Expertise

• Comprehensive understanding of diesel engines and heavy equipment systems.
• Proficient with hydraulic pumps, motors, and control valves.
• Expertise in diagnosing hydraulic issues such as overheating and flow deficiencies.
• Familiarity with drilling equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and mechanical diagrams effectively.

Equipment Experience

• Drill rigs operation and maintenance.
• Diesel generators.
• Hydraulic power system handling.
• Air compressor servicing.

Qualifications and Experience

• Certification as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic.
• Between 3 to 7 years of experience working with drill rigs or heavy equipment.
• Practical experience with hydraulic systems and pumps.
• Proficient English communication skills.
• Capability to acquire a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

• Possibility of working at remote drilling sites or workshops.
• Exposure to environmental factors such as heat, dust, noise, and heavy machinery conditions.
