Job description

About Flipkart

Flipkart is India's premier e-commerce marketplace serving over 500 million registered users and empowering millions of sellers, logistics associates, and brands. The company is focused on building India's commerce infrastructure through technology, data insights, and relentless customer-centricity. Our people propel this vision forward.

Role Overview

The Director – HR Business Partner (HRBP) within OneTech is a strategic leadership position blending people management, technology understanding, and organizational effectiveness. This role is a primary HR liaison to senior Engineering and Product leaders, responsible for driving the talent and culture strategy for Flipkart's core technology platforms. This is not a conventional HR position; it requires a strategy-driven, execution focused, and data-savvy HR leader who can influence executive leadership, manage complex organizational dynamics at scale, and accelerate engineering velocity and product success through people initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted HR strategist to Engineering VPs, Product heads, and leadership teams, participating actively in business reviews, planning sessions, and leadership discussions.
  • Translate technical and business strategies into aligned people priorities concerning talent acquisition, organizational structure, culture development, and capability growth aligned with 1–3 year objectives.
  • Understand technical environments including squads, platforms, and roadmaps, and tailor HR interventions accordingly.
  • Lead organization design efforts for engineering and product groups to optimize team structures, spans of control, layer depth, and role frameworks supportive of scalability.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Talent Acquisition on workforce planning including headcount forecasting, skills gap assessments, and make build-buy-borrow talent decisions across technologies.
  • Manage restructuring, integrations after mergers/acquisitions, and transformation programs in the vertical.
  • Steer talent strategy encompassing succession planning, identifying high-potential employees, ensuring critical role coverage, and improving retention of senior engineers and product managers.
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development to establish leadership development paths for technical leads, senior individual contributors, managers, and directors.
  • Develop and promote an attractive Employer Value Proposition to attract senior technical talent within a competitive marketplace.
  • Drive initiatives to foster a high-performance, inclusive engineering culture by leveraging engagement data to identify issues and implement targeted interventions.
  • Lead Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) action plans with measurable improvements in representation at engineering and product leadership levels.
  • Serve as a cultural anchor during transitions such as leadership changes, organizational restructuring, and M&A integration.
  • Oversee performance management processes including the annual performance review cycle, calibration, feedback quality, and differentiation across individual contributor and management tracks.
  • Partner with Compensation teams to design benchmarking, off-cycle adjustments, and incentives for specialized roles like Staff Engineers, Principal Engineers, Distinguished Architects, and senior Product Managers.
  • Address complex employee relations issues including investigations and disciplinary processes with care and prudence.
  • Ensure HR practices comply with Indian labor laws and internal governance policies relevant to large technology organizations.
  • Utilize workforce and engagement analytics to provide insights, guide decisions on attrition risks, organizational health, and structural diagnostics.
  • Continuously optimize HR processes, including governance meetings, HRBP-business interactions, and service delivery models for the function.
  • Represent OneTech HR interests in cross-functional Centers of Excellence for policy formulation, HRIS enhancements, and compensation framework development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Over 15 years of progressive human resources experience, with minimum 10 years as a senior HRBP supporting large Engineering or Product units.
  • Proven track record in partnering with C-suite executives and senior technical leadership within rapidly growing, high-velocity tech or e-commerce firms.
  • Experience managing HR for organizations with large engineering teams exceeding 500 employees and product-driven business models.
  • Strong preference for candidates with prior involvement in mergers and acquisitions integration, organizational transformation, or post-restructuring stabilization in technology environments.

Required Functional Expertise

  • Mastery in HR business partnering including organization design, talent management, performance management, compensation, employee relations, and culture development with specific insights into engineering-focused applications.
  • Ability to fluently communicate and collaborate within engineering and product contexts, understanding agile frameworks, platform team constructs, individual contributor career paths, and technology hiring dynamics.
  • Advanced skills in workforce analytics and human resources metrics, capable of delivering data-driven insights to senior technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Indian labor regulations and compliance standards applicable to sizable technology enterprises.

Leadership and Personal Attributes

  • Executive presence to effectively engage senior engineering leaders, providing constructive pushback and influence without direct authority.
  • Exceptional learning agility to assimilate diverse technological contexts and synthesize across multiple business domains.
  • High ethical standards operating with discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Collaborative yet decisive leadership style, able to provide clarity and calm amid ambiguity and organizational change.
  • Resilience, self-awareness, and genuine commitment to the professional growth of teams supported.

Why Join Flipkart

  • Lead people strategies for engineering teams advancing India's commerce, payment, and supply chain infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with leaders addressing technological challenges on a uniquely large scale within India.
  • Engage within an HR environment characterized by Centers of Excellence depth, sophisticated data maturity, and strategic influence at the executive level.
  • Enjoy competitive remuneration including ESOP options in a fast-paced growth setting.
  • Participate in a culture emphasizing direct communication, intellectual curiosity, and meritocratic impact over hierarchy.
