Role Overview
This full-time, office-based position offers an opportunity for an adept HR Manager to take accountability for the entire HR and payroll spectrum within this flourishing construction company. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will oversee workforce planning, recruitment, employee relations, and full payroll management, maintaining compliance with applicable laws and awards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies encompassing workforce planning, employee performance, and engagement initiatives.
- Provide coaching and practical HR guidance to managers regarding performance, conduct, grievances, and compliance matters.
- Conduct end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
- Prepare employment contracts, position descriptions, and related onboarding documentation.
- Manage apprenticeships, maintain training records, ensure RTO compliances, and administer QLeave obligations.
- Oversee performance reviews, goal-setting activities, and employee development programs.
- Execute full payroll operations, including pay runs, reconciliations, reporting, and ensuring accurate payment of wages, allowances, penalties, and leave entitlements.
- Interpret and apply employment awards, contracts, and individual employee arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with Single Touch Payroll (STP), superannuation, payroll tax, and leave reporting requirements.
- Address payroll inquiries and maintain data integrity across HR and payroll systems.
- Handle employee relations as primary point of contact, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and preparation of related correspondence.
- Enhance HR systems, policies, processes, and reporting mechanisms.
- Deliver training to employees and managers on HR platforms and processes.
- Support compliance efforts related to Quality, Environmental, and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as an HR Manager, Payroll Manager, or senior generalist managing full HR and payroll functions.
- Solid knowledge of the Fair Work Act and Australian employment legislation, including award interpretation.
- Expertise in managing employee investigations, disciplinary processes, grievances, and terminations.
- Ability to effectively coach operational managers in HR matters.
- Familiarity with payroll compliance, including STP, superannuation, payroll tax, and leave entitlements.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as Employment Hero, MYOB, Xero, or SAP.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and business systems.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to work autonomously and contribute to wider business objectives.
- Diploma qualification in Management, Human Resources, or related field; a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline is advantageous.
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, engineering or operational workforces will be highly regarded, including exposure to apprenticeships, QLeave administration, industrial relations, enterprise bargaining agreements (EBAs), return-to-work coordination, or organizational restructuring.
