Responsibilities

  • Handle storage, retrieval, and cataloguing of clients' belongings following established procedures.
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Coordinate and perform bed bug inspections in collaboration with the Housekeeper Lead, including bagging and tagging as necessary.
  • Promptly report any damages to property or equipment to the Environmental Services Manager.
  • Assist with wellness checks when time allows.
  • Propose suggestions to improve efficiency, workplace conditions, or procedures to the Environmental Services Manager as relevant.

Health and Safety

  • Adhere strictly to the Ontario Health and Safety Act, regulations, and internal health and safety policies.
  • Work closely with security personnel to identify and address safety and security needs.
  • Use prescribed personal protective equipment and report hazards, injuries, or illnesses promptly.
  • Follow all safety and security protocols, including fire procedures as per policy manuals.
  • Carry out duties ensuring personal and public safety at all times, such as using wet floor signs where appropriate.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Relationship and Leadership

  • Position reports directly to the Support Services Manager or designated supervisor.

Working Conditions

  • Work hours and schedule determined by Supervisor.
  • Ability to lift or move items up to 20 pounds.
  • Job involves frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and extended periods of standing.
  • Standard working hours include a half-hour paid meal break, with hours subject to operational demands.
  • Primary workplace located at 281 Wellington Street, London, Ontario, with some outreach locations.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Minimum completion of Secondary School Diploma.
  • Professional knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Must provide an original Criminal Background Check including vulnerable sector screening acceptable to The Salvation Army, obtained via the National Canadian Police Information Centre or local police.
  • Possible requirement for screening via The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
  • Employment contingent upon submitting written confirmation of completing a two-step Tuberculosis Skin Test from a healthcare provider.
  • First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training required.

Experience and Skills

  • At least two years of experience in janitorial, housekeeping, or maintenance fields.
  • Proficient in janitorial, housekeeping, and maintenance tasks at a professional level.
  • Competent in operating mechanized cleaning and maintenance equipment, such as floor cleaners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all client and coworker matters.

Compensation

The targeted salary for this role is fixed at $19.21 per hour. Placement within this rate is subject to market conditions, internal equity, and individual qualifications and experience.
