About Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan
Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan provides a comforting, supportive community for families with ill children, fostering a healing environment through compassion and communal aid. The organization offers vital resources, including meals, wellness programs, and sibling support, aiming to ease both financial and emotional burdens associated with medical care. With new facilities under development in Regina and Prince Albert, RMHC Saskatchewan relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers, donors, and community partners to enhance families' healing experiences.
Role Overview
The House Service Associate is essential in preparing and maintaining clean, comfortable accommodations for families during their stay. Reporting to the Facility Coordinator, the Associate ensures rooms and common spaces meet high standards of cleanliness and facilitates smooth transitions between family stays. This role involves frequent interaction with families, demanding compassion and respect alongside meticulous attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare guestrooms after family check-outs and scheduled refreshes, adhering to RMHC's rigorous cleanliness, sanitization, and presentation standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in shared areas such as restrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and other common spaces, focusing on details to ensure a welcoming atmosphere.
- Perform deeper cleaning tasks as needed, including walls, windows, cabinets, appliances, bathrooms, blinds, and under furniture.
- Communicate effectively with Family Service about check-outs, room readiness, and any areas needing extra cleaning attention.
- Manage laundry, restocking linens and supplies, and oversee housekeeping inventory levels, liaising with the Facility Coordinator for replenishments.
- Handle waste disposal, including recycling and organics, following health, safety, and sanitization protocols.
- Perform light maintenance such as changing light bulbs, batteries, and vacuum bags; report major maintenance issues to Facility Coordinator.
- Support food programs, House Service volunteers, and other operational demands as necessary.
- Interact warmly and respectfully with families, offering help while honoring their privacy and understanding their unique circumstances.
- Collaborate with teammates and volunteers, providing assistance to ensure smooth daily operations.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years’ experience in housekeeping or cleaning, preferably within hospitality, healthcare, long-term care, or commercial cleaning environments with high cleanliness standards.
- Strong knowledge of housekeeping procedures, sanitization protocols, and safe cleaning methods.
- Physical ability to remain active during shifts and lift up to 40 pounds safely, including tasks like moving furniture, bed-making, vacuuming, mopping, and bathroom cleaning.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet quality standards without continuous supervision.
- Preferred knowledge of WHMIS and Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety standards; training will be provided if necessary.
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
- Successful completion of a Police Record Check is required prior to employment.
- Flexible scheduling availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and occasional travel.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining consistently high cleaning standards.
- Compassionate, non-judgmental attitude towards families facing medical challenges.
- Reliability, self-direction, adaptability to changing priorities, and strong communication and collaborative abilities.
Benefits
- Competitive salary with annual reviews and paid time off based on employment status.
- Access to health and wellness benefits and an Employee Assistance Program depending on eligibility.
- Retirement savings opportunities through RRSP matching for qualified employees.
- Extensive onboarding and continuous training programs.
- Opportunity to contribute meaningfully to families’ well-being during critical times.
