Job description
About the Role
The Hotel Manager acts as the strategic leader responsible for all aspects of property operations and serves as the General Manager in their absence. This role oversees departments including Front Office, Retail/Gift Shops, Recreation/Fitness Center, Housekeeping, Security/Loss Prevention, Engineering/Maintenance, Food and Beverage/Culinary, and Event Management where applicable. Collaborating closely with Executive Committee members and department heads, the manager develops and implements operational strategies aligned with the brand’s service standards and initiatives. The position aims to meet target customers' expectations, ensure high employee satisfaction, drive revenue growth, and optimize financial outcomes. As part of the Executive Committee, the Hotel Manager helps craft property-wide strategies delivering exceptional services and a strong return on investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain departmental focus on key operational elements that enhance guest satisfaction and financial results.
- Promote an environment at all operational areas conducive to excellent guest experiences.
- Analyze financial statements and reports to assess operations performance against budgets.
- Ensure capital expenditures address strategic priorities within the service framework.
- Collaborate with direct reports to identify improvement opportunities and enhance financial performance.
- Balance profit margin maintenance with guest and staff satisfaction.
- Address operational challenges by facilitating the creation of preventive solutions.
- Coach the operations team on occupancy, rate management, wage control, and expense management.
- Monitor wage progress and budget alignment, supporting department heads to resolve issues and ensure accountability.
- Formulate and execute operational strategies consistent with overall brand business goals.
- Drive property progress through timely, strategic decision-making.
- Continuously seek to elevate service performance and consistently communicate operational goals.
- Implement brand and regional initiatives and ensure follow-up communications with teams.
- Regularly inspect the property and engage with employees and guests to assess needs and opportunities.
- Set a clear vision for service and product delivery, champion brand service standards, and ensure leadership team alignment.
- Promote fairness and equity among employees.
- Observe and provide feedback on employee service behaviors.
- Recruit experienced operations managers exhibiting creativity and leadership to fulfill business needs.
- Conduct annual appraisals of direct reports according to established procedures.
- Maintain an open-door policy, review employee satisfaction insights, and address workforce concerns.
- Remain aware of leadership talent within the property and encourage employee dedication to exceptional service.
- Model exemplary service behaviors in interactions with guests and staff.
Candidate Profile
- Either a two-year degree in Business Administration, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related field combined with at least 8 years of experience in management operations, sales, marketing, or similar areas; or a four-year bachelor's degree in the same disciplines with a minimum of 6 years’ professional experience.
