About the Role

Staffordshire County Council seeks a dedicated Highway Inspections Technical Support Officer to join its Highway Inspection team in Leek, England. This role is pivotal in maintaining safe, well-monitored highways by supporting inspection processes and providing technical assistance aligned with the Highways Act 1980.

Key Duties

  • Support consistent work practices within the Highway Inspections team adhering to approved procedures and policies.
  • Serve as the primary response point for customer and stakeholder inquiries, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Compile and analyze diverse data to aid performance reporting and inquiry responses.
  • Keep accurate digital records using record management systems and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Update GIS maps to provide precise highway information for council and stakeholders.
  • Advise councillors, community groups, residents, and businesses on highway services and inspections.
  • Provide expert guidance on specific highway-related queries and defects.
  • Assist in organizing work programs, scheduling meetings, minute-taking, and preparing documents.
  • Manage financial and project documentation including purchase orders, invoices, reports, and communications.
  • Handle financial tasks such as processing receipts and charges and producing budget reports.
  • Support performance data collection, process audits, and reviews.
  • Maintain and update team web resources like websites, intranet, and SharePoint platforms.
  • Facilitate claims processing and legal activities within the team.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with partners, contractors, and local communities for effective communication.
  • Support health, safety, environmental, and quality administration procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in team processes and systems.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-focused, eager to provide exceptional support in a busy environment. A blend of relevant qualifications and hands-on experience is essential.

Minimum Requirements

  • Level 3 qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • GCSEs or equivalents in English and Maths at grade 5 or above.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in maintaining databases with high accuracy.
  • Confidence engaging diverse stakeholders, including public and elected officials.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, GIS tools, and database systems.
  • Experience handling purchase orders and invoices.
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong customer service orientation with professionalism and inclusivity.
  • Excellent communication skills across written, verbal, and digital channels.
  • Exceptional organization skills to manage competing priorities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy commitment.
  • Knowledge of local government challenges and financial/commercial principles.
  • Full clean UK driving licence and readiness to travel to meetings as needed (casual car user).
