Position Overview

The Head Cashier holds a vital position, aiding the Front End Supervisor by inspiring front-end staff to embody our core GET behaviours and ensuring customers receive an outstanding shopping experience. This role involves coaching, training, and developing Front End and Lot Associates, managing scheduling coverage, and being the first point of contact for resolving customer issues.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Consistently exemplify GET behaviours and foster a positive team environment.
  • Maintain sufficient operational checkouts, ensuring checkout lines have no more than one person at the register and two waiting.
  • Regularly inspect the front-end from the customer’s perspective, guaranteeing readiness for major events, promotional activities, and flyer availability.
  • Monitor associates and workflow to ensure adequate staffing aligned with business requirements.
  • Provide associates with necessary training, relevant information, coaching, motivation, and recognition geared towards meeting performance expectations and preparing for increased responsibility.
  • Effectively communicate store leadership’s goals, priorities, and directives to team members.
  • Ensure the parking lot is tidy and free from debris.
  • Coordinate and assign backup cashiers to designated registers as needed.
  • Operate cash registers and train new cashiers on their use.
  • Support security staff during cash collection procedures.
  • Adhere to all Safety and Loss Prevention guidelines and ensure frontline staff comply accordingly.
  • Implement procedures aimed at reducing losses and safeguarding assets at the front-end.

Additional Information

  • Work environment is a warehouse setting, potentially dusty and noisy, with frequent exposure to drafts and temperature fluctuations due to open doors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail or cash handling experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership position.
  • No professional certifications required.
