About ZURU
ZURU is an innovative company focused on disrupting various industries through cutting-edge automation and radical innovation. It operates through key divisions: ZURU Toys revolutionizes play; ZURU Tech leads advancements in construction; and ZURU Edge develops new-generation FMCG brands. Founded in 2003 by entrepreneurial brothers Nick and Mat Mowbray, ZURU has rapidly expanded to over 5000 employees worldwide, with internationally acclaimed brands including Bunch O Balloons, Mini Brands, XSHOT, and FMCG lines like MONDAY Haircare and BONKERS.
Role Overview
The Graduate Engineer position within ZURU Tech’s Housing Engineering team offers an opportunity to contribute to the future of construction via a fully automated system for designing and manufacturing buildings. The role involves collaborating with experienced engineers to take ownership of design challenges, producing CAD components and assemblies, prototyping, testing, and refining solutions for manufacturability and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and refine mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, advancing concepts into detailed, manufacturable designs.
- Manage design projects end-to-end, including concept development, CAD work, prototype fabrication, testing, and handoff to manufacturing teams.
- Utilize core engineering principles such as statics, material mechanics, tolerancing, and material selection to support robust design decisions.
- Construct and evaluate physical prototypes, analyzing data to inform iterative improvements.
- Design with manufacturing and assembly considerations (DFM/DFA) to ensure practicality and cost-efficiency in production.
- Produce precise engineering documentation including drawings, GD&T annotations, technical calculations, and reports adhering to quality standards.
- Conduct research on materials, components, industry standards, and manufacturing processes to minimize risks in design.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure engineering intentions translate effectively into production and to contribute innovative ideas for product and process enhancements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Product Design Engineering, completed or near completion.
- Strong foundational knowledge in statics, mechanics of materials, manufacturing methods, and design for manufacture principles.
- Proficiency in using 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks, with understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and material selections; familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages is advantageous.
- A practical, iterative approach with enthusiasm for prototyping and testing, coupled with excellent problem-solving and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit, motivated to take initiative and learn rapidly in a dynamic setting.
Working Environment and Culture
ZURU thrives on rapid innovation, ambitious objectives, and a culture that values ownership and continuous improvement. This role is office-based to foster quick collaboration, effective decision-making, and strong team dynamics. Flexibility in working arrangements may be possible based on role and business needs.
Prospective candidates who seek meaningful impact, accelerated growth, and challenging work surrounded by talented colleagues are encouraged to apply.
