Job Overview

The role of Global Sourcing Manager involves formulating and implementing comprehensive sourcing strategies covering products, categories, materials, suppliers, factories, and geographic regions. This position oversees the end-to-end sourcing lifecycle from gathering market intelligence to supplier onboarding and continuous cost optimization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and execute global sourcing plans aligned with business objectives, encompassing product strategy, cost targets, quality standards, timelines, capacity needs, risk management, and sustainability goals.
  • Establish sourcing frameworks by category, product clusters, materials, supplier base, countries, regions, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Optimize multi-country sourcing strategies focusing on cost efficiency, quality, capacity, speed, flexibility, resilience, and risk mitigation.
  • Locate diversification opportunities to spread sourcing across different countries and regions.
  • Analyze and determine ideal geographic sourcing placements for various product categories and raw materials.
  • Stay informed of global supply market trends to adapt sourcing strategies accordingly.
  • Develop sourcing roadmaps that address short-term, mid-term, and long-term supplier and manufacturing needs.
  • Translate demands from commercial, product, and supply chain departments into sourcing plans.
  • Collaborate closely with buying, merchandising, product development, planning, procurement, and supply chain teams for future sourcing requirements.
  • Maintain and expand a global network of suppliers and factories.
  • Identify, assess, onboard, and nurture new suppliers and manufacturing partners, including conducting market mapping and capability analysis.
  • Establish qualified supplier databases covering capacity, certifications, quality, cost, compliance, and commercial terms.
  • Manage supplier evaluation including due diligence, audits, and coordination with quality and compliance functions.
  • Lead negotiation of supplier contracts, managing RFQ, RFP, tenders, and competitive bidding processes.
  • Analyze cost structures including materials, labor, overhead, tooling, logistics, packaging, and more to establish target costs and cost optimization strategies.
  • Develop and implement cost reduction programs, monitor savings, and validate results with finance teams.
  • Create supplier consolidation and diversification plans to mitigate risks while optimizing costs and service levels.
  • Ensure capacity planning and management with suppliers to meet seasonal and peak demand requirements.
  • Monitor global political, economic, trade, and market conditions to adjust sourcing strategies as needed.
  • Manage sourcing for new product developments and actively engage suppliers early in product design phases.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated expertise in global sourcing, procurement, supplier management, or related international commercial roles.
  • Experience with global sourcing strategies and managing suppliers across various countries and regions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international manufacturing ecosystems and supplier capabilities.
  • Proficient in developing multi-country sourcing strategies and supplier diversification tactics.
  • Strong skills in supplier identification, qualification, onboarding, and development.
  • Proven experience managing RFQ, RFP, tender, and competitive bidding processes.
  • Advanced commercial negotiation abilities covering pricing, terms, capacity, tooling, and quality aspects.
  • In-depth understanding of cost analysis techniques including should-costing, cost breakdown, target costing, benchmarking, and total cost calculations.
