Role Overview

The Geospatial Assistant role involves ensuring the Council's addressing, parcel, and geospatial information is current, precise, and dependable. You will be responsible for collecting, maintaining, and verifying geospatial data and producing various location-based products such as maps, reports, and tables. The position requires creating accurate GIS and cartographic outputs, supporting staff with GIS applications like ArcGIS and Geocortex, and actively seeking ways to enhance systems, processes, and data quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain records associated with street and rural numbering, parcel data, and other relevant Council information.
  • Update and confirm Council geospatial datasets to ensure robust data accuracy.
  • Develop precise GIS maps, cartographic materials, reports, and tabular data that aid prompt decision-making.
  • Assist Council employees in effectively utilizing GIS tools and corporate datasets.
  • Foster and sustain strong relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in the ongoing enhancement of geospatial systems, workflows, and methodologies.
  • Provide support for emergency management initiatives and other prioritized Council activities as necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of School Certificate or equivalent qualifications, including competence in Maths and English.
  • Relevant tertiary education is preferred.
  • Background in GIS, ICT, data management, or analogous areas.
  • Understanding of GIS technologies, spatial data handling, geospatial toolsets, and cartographic design is beneficial.
  • Strong focus on customer service and interpersonal communications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to data accuracy.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to operate autonomously.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, alongside confidence in employing various other software platforms.
