Job description
Position Overview
The General Utility role is responsible for ensuring kitchen areas, equipment, utensils, and plateware remain clean, sanitary, and well-organized. This role supports food preparation activities and promotes adherence to the core principles outlined in the TSFR Roadmap including purpose, vision, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Scrape and pre-rinse food residues from dirty dishes before loading them into dishwashing machines, comprising about half of the work.
- Clean pots, pans, and trays manually or using dishwashing equipment.
- Perform all designated food preparation tasks.
- Remove trash regularly and transport it to dumpster locations.
- Wash surfaces such as tables, walls, refrigerators, cooking appliances, and floors.
- Clean trash cans and receptacles thoroughly.
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle dishwashing machines as needed.
- Handle transportation of cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
- Store plates, utensils, pans, and cases on both high and low shelving safely.
- Work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor duties and frequently in hot, humid environments.
- Respond effectively in emergencies to prevent harm to self and others.
Physical and Mental Expectations
Employees must be physically capable of bending, stooping, lifting dish racks up to 40 pounds regularly, standing for long durations, and moving between work areas. Sensory abilities include close vision and focus adjustment. The workplace may present wet floors, extreme temperatures, and loud noise. Mental adaptability is essential; workers must communicate verbally and in writing, operate effectively in fast-paced, team-oriented environments, and embrace changes willingly.
Skills & Knowledge
Ability to read, understand, and follow operational instructions, maintenance manuals, contracts and produce routine written communications. Practical problem-solving skills and the capability to interpret diverse instructions are required.
Work Environment
Primarily indoors (90%) with some outdoor activity (10%). Occasional travel to other field locations by car may be necessary either solo or with coworkers. Reasonable accommodations are available to assist individuals with disabilities provided they do not cause undue hardship.
