General Utility

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of kitchen areas, equipment, plateware, and utensils to ensure a sanitary environment. The role also supports food preparation tasks and promotes a culture that aligns with the company’s core purpose, vision, mission, and values.

Key Responsibilities

• Scrape and pre-rinse food from soiled dishes and load them into the dishwashing machine (approximately 50% of the time).
• Wash pots, pans, and trays either manually or using machines (15%).
• Complete assigned food preparation tasks (10%).
• Dispose of trash and garbage by removing it to the dumpster area (10%).
• Clean work surfaces including tables, walls, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and floors (5%).
• Maintain cleanliness of garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%).
• Set up, maintain, and break down dishwashing machines (5%).
• Transport cases weighing up to 50 pounds up to 20 times daily.
• Place plates, utensils, pans, and cases on shelves at varying heights.
• Primarily work indoors (90%), with some duties outdoors (10%).
• Operate frequently in environments that are hot and damp.
• React swiftly to emergencies to prevent danger to self and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements

The role requires the ability to read and interpret documents like contracts, operating instructions, and procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence. Effective verbal communication is necessary when interacting with groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical skills include solving practical problems and understanding various types of instructions provided in multiple formats.

Physically, the role demands frequent sitting, talking, hearing, walking, hand and finger dexterity, reaching with arms, and the ability to handle objects. The environment exposes employees to wet floors, temperature extremes, and loud noises. The employee must frequently bend, stoop, lift up to 40 pounds regularly, stand for extended periods, and move between areas. Close vision and focus adjustment are essential.

Mental demands consist of working effectively within a team, managing a fast-paced and changing environment, and communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment

The environment requires occasional travel by automobile to other field locations, either independently or with a coworker. The company reserves the right to adjust duties, responsibilities, and position titles as necessary to meet business needs.
