General Utility

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils, while providing assistance in food preparation activities. The position supports the organizational culture outlined in the TSFR Roadmap, emphasizing core mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

• Pre-rinsing and scraping food residue from dirty dishes before loading them into the dishwashing machine, constituting about 50% of duties.
• Handwashing pots, pans, and trays as required (approximately 15% of tasks).
• Performing all assigned food preparation tasks (10%).
• Collecting and transporting trash and garbage to designated dumpster areas (10%).
• Cleaning surfaces including tables, walls, refrigeration units, cooking equipment, and floors (5%).
• Maintaining cleanliness of garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%).
• Setting up, maintaining, and dismantling dishwashing machinery (5%).
• Lifting and transporting cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
• Placing kitchen items such as plates, utensils, pans, and cases on shelving units at various heights.
• Mostly working indoors (90%) with occasional outdoor duties (10%).
• Frequently exposed to hot and damp conditions within the work environment.
• Ability to respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations to prevent harm to oneself and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Language Skills:
Must be capable of reading and understanding documents, operating instructions, and manuals; able to write routine reports and communicate effectively with groups.

Mathematical Skills:
Skilled in solving practical problems and interpreting diverse forms of instruction including written, oral, and diagrammatic formats.

Physical Demands:
The position regularly requires sitting, talking, hearing, walking, manual dexterity, and reaching. Exposure to wet floors, noise, and temperature extremes is common. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift dish racks up to 40 pounds frequently, stand for extended periods, and maintain specific visual acuity.

Psychological Demands:
The role entails working collaboratively in a team, managing a fast-paced setting, being adaptable to change, and possessing strong verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment
