About the Role
Join Serco as a General Practitioner within the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Health Services team. You will provide primary medical care to Defence personnel, working in outpatient or inpatient settings across Queensland. As a permanent Medical Officer - Bench, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on ensuring the health and fitness of Defence members pre and post deployments. This role offers flexibility with a permanent employment status, paid for each day available, and requires readiness to fill shifts to cover sick or planned leave.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, high-standard primary healthcare to patients in alignment with professional and legislative standards and Defence policies.
- Contribute as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to maintaining Defence personnel's health and wellbeing.
- Assess Defence members’ fitness for duty and manage health care related to deployment readiness and recovery.
- Provide expert medical advice to the Joint Health Unit Commanding Officer, Health Centre Manager, and unit commanders.
- Operate across various settings including outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.
- Support clinical operations with assistance and guidance from Senior Medical Officers and uniformed colleagues.
- Travel within Queensland as required to fulfill Bench role duties.
Requirements
- Unconditional and unrestricted Australian registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
- Fellowship of either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM), or Vocational Registration.
- At least two years of full-time postgraduate general practice experience within the past five years (or part-time equivalent).
- Active participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) compliant with AHPRA requirements.
- Current CPR certification (HLTAID009).
- Australian citizenship to obtain necessary Baseline Security Clearance.

Additional Information
The Bench position is a permanent appointment allowing accrual of sick and annual leave, unlike casual roles. It entails a level of flexibility and commitment to being available as each day worked is compensated fully. You do not need to be enlisted in the Defence Force to take this civilian position located on-base.
