Overview
The General Physician plays a vital role in assisting the managing physician (MRP) and healthcare teams by executing management plans and ensuring timely, accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR), adhering strictly to organizational policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient interviews and evaluations, including detailed medical, medication, socioeconomic, psychological, and functional histories, along with pertinent physical examinations; accurately document all findings in patient records.
- Alert attending physicians regarding newly admitted patients, discussing their clinical status and necessary medical interventions, clarifying required investigations and treatment strategies.
- Perform daily rounds for all assigned inpatients, documenting clinical observations, assessments, and treatment plans in progress notes.
- Serve as first responder on call as per duty rotas, promptly addressing patient complaints, evaluating, managing cases with specialist input, and documenting care plans.
- Ensure all justifications for advanced diagnostic tests (e.g., CT scans, MRI, ultrasound) and management actions are appropriately documented in compliance with healthcare policies and insurer requirements, including correct ICD coding.
- Complete detailed handover reports at shift end for assigned wards, including pending diagnostic and therapeutic tasks for incoming colleagues.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care by liaising with nurses, consultants, dietitians, social workers, laboratory and radiology staff, and insurance medical personnel.
- Accurately complete all required medical documentation, including patient transfer forms and discharge summaries, providing discharged patients with clear instructions and medication details.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, quality improvement projects, and patient safety initiatives within the healthcare facility.
- Report unresolved patient-related medical issues to attending physicians or department chairs.
- Engage in continuous professional development to meet continuing medical education (CME) requirements specified by regional health authorities.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by department leadership, aligned with clinical privileges.
Additional Responsibilities Based on Ward Assignment
- Surgical Wards: Perform preoperative evaluations, minor surgical procedures, assist in major surgeries under supervision, manage postoperative care, and collaborate with surgical teams.
- Obstetrics & Gynecology Wards: Deliver supervised comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care including prenatal exams, labor support, delivery, and postpartum management.
- Pediatric Wards: Provide inpatient pediatric care under guidance, attend deliveries to offer immediate neonatal care and resuscitation, stabilize critically ill or injured children in emergency settings, functioning within a multidisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Strong communication skills including verbal, listening, and presentation capabilities.
- Proficient interpersonal skills with the ability to manage organizational and stress-related challenges.
- Competence in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Successful completion of at least one year of internship experience at accredited hospitals or health centers.
- A bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery or equivalent qualification from an accredited institute.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English; proficiency in Arabic is preferable.
- Valid medical practice license as per regional health authorities (e.g., SCFHS, DHA), Basic Life Support certification, and advanced licenses where applicable.
