General Merchandise Assistant Manager

Position Overview

This role supports the Store Manager in overseeing store functions in line with company policies. It focuses on leading team members to deliver friendly and helpful customer service while driving sales and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• As part of the Store Management Team, responsible for meeting sales and profit targets through budget control and accurate sales forecasting. Utilizes sales and financial reports, analyzes market trends and community demands to adapt business strategies and manage expenses effectively. Communicates results and guides staff on performance.
• Collaborates with management to create and execute operational plans. Prioritizes tasks, delegates responsibilities, and directs managers and associates. Ensures the store maintains optimal conditions with competitive pricing, proper merchandise presentation, and adherence to company standards. Implements new programs targeted to specific store areas like Front End, Back End, Fresh, or Operations, evaluating their impact for success. Cross-trained to operate efficiently in all store departments as needed.
• Maintains asset protection and safety procedures, conducts quality assurance checks, and oversees safety and operational compliance. Addresses compliance proactively, including issues related to loss prevention and general controls.
• Acts as a customer service ambassador by greeting shoppers, collecting feedback, and resolving issues professionally to enhance the shopping experience. Models and enforces excellent customer service practices among associates.
• Supports community engagement by participating in events and building relationships with local groups. Contributes to company-driven community and sustainability initiatives.
• Leads the team through regular meetings, sharing operational goals and promoting store-wide initiatives with an emphasis on omni-channel and total store strategies. Motivates associates by recognizing achievements and fostering professional development opportunities. Identifies potential future leaders and provides targeted training.
• Upholds company values by delivering timely, clear, and respectful performance feedback, including corrective actions when necessary. Manages relationships with district-level support functions such as HR managers.
• Ensures compliance with company standards in handling restricted merchandise like alcohol, ammunition, narcotics, and high-value items. Manages cash handling controls potentially involving up to $250,000 daily.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between 56,100 and 66,642.50 CAD annually, determined based on relevant experience.
