About The Opportunity
Wakatū Incorporation represents more than a typical commercial outfit. Firmly anchored in Te Tauihu and guided by its 500-year strategic plan, Te Pae Tawhiti, it pursues intergenerational success. Through its brands Tohu and Kono—both award-winning and deeply tied to local heritage—this Māori-owned wine company combines business drive, stewardship, and a meaningful mission. Located in Blenheim, the role leads a team of around 20 and holds comprehensive responsibility across vineyards, winemaking, supply chain, sales, and international distribution. With solid existing domestic and global channels, this position offers opportunities to expand markets and diversify product reach.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
The successful candidate will assume full accountability for the wine enterprise, enhancing strategic direction, accelerating growth, strengthening brand presence, and delivering sustainable value. You will steer cross-functional teams and operations while growing revenues and expanding markets on a global scale.
Candidate Profile
- Proven senior leadership within wine, FMCG, or export-driven industries
- Strong commercial and financial skills, including management of profit and loss
- Demonstrated success in brand and revenue growth
- Experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary business operations
- A global outlook coupled with extensive international professional networks
- Ability to cultivate high-achieving teams and a positive workplace culture
- A natural curiosity, humility, and authentic connection with te ao Māori, whakapapa, and Wakatū’s enduring vision
