Role Overview
Fonterra is seeking a strategic and commercially savvy General Manager of Portfolio Development to join the Global Engineering & Technical leadership team. This role is pivotal in transforming long-term business strategy into a prioritized capital investment portfolio that enhances growth, resilience, safety, sustainability, operational efficiency, and shareholder value. Acting as a crucial link between Strategy and Capital Projects, this position ensures a steady pipeline of valuable investment opportunities supporting future growth and business excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead early project stages by guiding studies, option analyses, and concept development focused on strategic capital investments, particularly in Ingredients and Foodservice.
- Translate business goals into prioritized capital investment opportunities.
- Deliver comprehensive recommendations and concept evaluation reports to aid investment committee decisions.
- Manage portfolio governance through transparent reporting, risk management, and structured decision-making frameworks.
- Collaborate closely with Strategy, Capital Projects, Commercial, Engineering, Manufacturing, Environmental, Quality, and Health, Safety and Wellbeing teams to maximize outcomes.
- Ensure portfolio development activities meet targets concerning timing, budgeting accuracy, and value delivery.
- Develop organizational capability through coaching, mentoring, and leadership growth initiatives.
- Advocate for and uphold health, safety, wellbeing, and food safety quality standards.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience (over 10 years) leading complex capital projects, programs, or portfolio delivery.
- Proven leadership track record within large, multifaceted organizations.
- Strong commercial insight with the ability to assess investment opportunity viability.
- Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to build robust relationships.
- Skilled in producing detailed strategic recommendations and concept evaluations.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, supply chain dynamics, and market conditions.
- Capacity to work effectively in complex and evolving business environments, balancing strategic vision with operational execution.
