About Fonterra and the Role
Fonterra Te Mātāpuna is a global dairy co-operative owned by New Zealand farmers and driven by values of care, collaboration, and contribution. Our Operations Data & AI team focuses on leveraging data, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency throughout the organization.
We are seeking an AI Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team encompassing Data Scientists, AI specialists, and engineers tasked with delivering AI, optimization, and advanced analytics solutions across operational divisions. This position reports to the General Manager of Data & AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Data Scientists, AI experts, and engineers.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of AI, optimization, and advanced analytics solutions.
- Collaborate with operational stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and deliver business value through technology solutions.
- Direct efforts around operational planning, scheduling, and decision support systems.
- Provide leadership in Machine Learning, Generative AI, and other emerging AI technologies.
- Establish strong partnerships with architecture, infrastructure, security, and delivery teams.
- Advocate for responsible AI principles, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of Data and AI within Operations.
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams specializing in AI, Data Science, or Analytics.
- Demonstrated success in deploying and maintaining AI, optimization, or advanced analytics systems in production environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Machine Learning, Generative AI, optimization techniques, and contemporary cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.
- Ability to articulate complex technical concepts in terms understandable and valuable to business stakeholders.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and influence across business and technology groups.
- Experience fostering a high-performance team culture through coaching and development of technical talent.
- Sound judgment in making decisions around building, buying, or reusing technology solutions and recognizing when AI is unsuitable.
