Position Overview

As a rapidly expanding international firm focused on data center construction and management, Bitdeer seeks a General Manager to oversee operations in Ethiopia—a vital market for the company's African expansion. The GM will lead efforts spanning market entry, construction projects, government relations, and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute medium- and long-term strategic plans to drive operational excellence and sustainable growth in Ethiopia.
• Assess market trends, competitive landscapes, and customer requirements to formulate strategies targeting both local and global markets.
• Maintain the company’s technological edge and expand market share effectively.
• Foster and preserve strong client relationships to ensure high satisfaction, renew contracts, and discover new business opportunities.
• Form strategic alliances with key stakeholders including cloud service providers, large enterprises, and government bodies.
• Manage governmental engagement to obtain permits, licenses, and guarantee compliance with regulations.
• Represent Bitdeer in official meetings, events, and negotiations with local authorities.
• Keep abreast of Ethiopian regulatory changes affecting data center construction and IT operations, adapting strategies proactively.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of data center projects, from feasibility and planning to design, construction, and commissioning, ensuring adherence to industry benchmarks such as Uptime Tier certification and ISO standards.
• Supervise data center maintenance and operations to ensure optimal efficiency, security, and reliability.
• Provide regular updates and contingency plans to headquarters regarding project milestones and potential challenges.
• Prepare and control the annual budget, forecasting expenses and revenues effectively.
• Optimize allocation of resources to sustain financial health and growth of Ethiopian operations.
• Implement rigorous quality assurance processes meeting operational and customer standards.
• Recruit and nurture a high-performing management team fostering accountability and motivation toward excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
• MBA or equivalent advanced management qualification strongly preferred.
• 8–10 years of progressive management experience within data center, cloud computing, IT infrastructure, or related fields, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles such as General Manager, Operations Director, or Project Director.
• Comprehensive expertise managing entire data center project lifecycles—from planning through operations—with knowledge of standards like Uptime Tier, ISO 27001, and power usage effectiveness optimization.
• Experience in emerging markets, especially in Africa, is highly advantageous.
• In-depth understanding of data center industry trends and core technologies such as power supply systems, cooling, and network architectures.
• Knowledge of cloud computing, hybrid IT configurations, storage solutions, and edge computing as applied to data center management.
• Proven ability to lead capital-intensive projects while ensuring robust ROI.
• Background or management experience in the cryptocurrency sector is a plus.
• Priority will be given to candidates with established connections to Ethiopian government officials.
