Overview
KPMG Jamaica operates a delivery center called Jamaica Extended Support Services (JESS) in Kingston, providing back office support to KPMG United States finance and accounting functions. The center is expanding its General Accounting process capabilities to support general ledger activities under a team extension model working alongside the Client's stakeholders.
Job Summary
The General Accounting Team Lead at JESS is responsible for managing ledger accounts and ensuring accuracy through various accounting tasks such as reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis. This role reports primarily to the JESS General Accounting Manager and collaborates with Finance and Accounting Client team members.
Primary Duties
- Maintain balance sheet and general ledger accounts and conduct analyses.
- Investigate journal entries posted to complex and moderate volume accounts on a daily basis.
- Apply independent judgment and follow Client policies to execute moderate to complex accounting tasks.
- Analyze and resolve issues by evaluating alternatives within established procedures and coordinate with management for reviews.
- Prepare specialized reports and analyses ranging from simple to moderate complexity.
- Handle fixed asset maintenance and prepare journal entries including reclassifications and reversals supported by research.
- Post journal entries daily from a centralized mailbox aligned with Client policies.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of team members’ work to meet Client expectations and deadlines.
- Prioritize tasks to meet timelines while continuously updating documentation and procedures for improvements.
- Train and develop team members and implement changes as directed by management.
- Engage with stakeholders and other departments for effective collaboration and service delivery.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Serve as first escalation point to maintain high Client satisfaction with a customer-centric approach.
- Communicate effectively with Client to understand and adapt to policy, process, and procedural changes.
- Collaborate with JESS Finance & Accounting departments to share best practices.
- Advise team members on policy and procedural updates and act on customer feedback.
People Management
- Lead and supervise a team, fostering professional development and accountability for customer satisfaction targets.
- Coach and motivate to optimize team performance and morale.
- Manage multiple priorities, escalate critical issues to management as needed, and support continuous organizational improvement.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline from an accredited institution is required.
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience including supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong ability to train and guide staff on account processes and procedures.
- Advanced expertise with General Ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and fixed assets.

Additional Information
- Hybrid work model requiring at least five office days per month; more may be necessary depending on business needs.
- Use of approved Generative AI tools in daily tasks is expected.
- Work occurs in a fast-paced, paperless environment requiring extensive use of information systems.
