This role specifically centers on Matomo Core—the foundational product layer that supports open-source users, cloud customers, plugins, and integrations. Working on Matomo Core means engaging in complex, impactful problems while directly influencing a widely used analytics platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of customer problems rather than just writing code.
• Analyze and understand issues thoroughly before proposing solutions.
• Collaborate on shaping priorities alongside product and engineering teams.
• Develop comprehensive solutions spanning frontend, backend, databases, APIs, and product flows.
• Deliver incremental releases, learn from user feedback, and iteratively improve the product.
• Leverage AI tools as an integral part of your daily engineering process.

Senior engineers will additionally influence product and technical direction and contribute to defining how the Core team operates.

Scope of Work

• Diagnose and resolve complex challenges in a mature, extensive codebase.
• Enhance security, performance, scalability, reliability, and system resilience.
• Maintain data integrity, accuracy, and trustworthiness critical to customers.
• Expand enterprise-grade functionality and evolve APIs and platform capabilities used by plugins and integrations.
• Improve data privacy, consent handling, responsible data collection, server-side tracking, data anonymization, and health monitoring.
• Advance analytics features including goal tracking, ecommerce reports, dashboards, and user interface consistency through the design system.

• Comfort working throughout the technology stack—including frontend, backend, databases, APIs, and documentation.
• Experience or enthusiasm for using AI-based development tools regularly as part of the workflow.

Matomo’s technology stack includes PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, Vue.js, and TypeScript, though precise familiarity is not mandatory given the priority on problem solving and learning capability.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates located in Germany, the UK, or Ireland exclusively. The team works primarily asynchronously emphasizing clear written communication, autonomy, and independent documentation of work.
