Role Overview

Join Matomo as a Full Stack Engineer and contribute to developing the next generation of privacy-centric analytics solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and implement new backend (PHP) and frontend (JavaScript) features extending Matomo's capabilities.
• Work with other technologies as needed, including Python and Node.js, to develop innovative analytics functionalities.
• Explore and validate novel product ideas rapidly, focusing on AI-powered insights and enhanced analytics.
• Own projects from ideation through deployment, balancing speed with quality and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
• Operate effectively in a small, independent team with minimal supervision.
• Identify and resolve obstacles proactively, escalating when required.
• Ensure product excellence considering usability, scalability, security, and long-term value.
• Write automated tests, conduct code reviews, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
• Stay updated on emerging frameworks, technologies, and trends to infuse fresh ideas into Matomo's development.
• Collaborate with co-founders and senior engineers using communication tools like Slack, Jira, and Confluence.
• Share prototypes, concepts, and knowledge to promote innovation company-wide.
• Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly within a remote and global team environment.

Candidate Profile

• 3 to 5 years of experience with backend development in PHP or Python, frontend development in JavaScript, and database usage.
• Proven ability to deliver features end-to-end, from concept and prototypes to production-ready solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to adopting new technologies and innovations.
• Self-motivated with capability to prioritize and work independently in a dynamic, fast-moving team.
• Product-focused mindset, translating user needs and strategic objectives into effective, practical solutions.
• Skilled at balancing rapid development with maintaining sustainable engineering standards.
• Good understanding of security risks and best practices to prevent vulnerabilities.
• Experienced in writing automated tests, performing code reviews, and producing clear technical documentation.
• Excellent command of English for effective communication in a remote, global setting.
• Comfortable working fully remotely within Ireland and participating in agile workflows.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with analytics, reporting, data visualization, or integrating AI/ML technologies.
• Involvement in open-source projects, either contributing or building on existing platforms.
• Familiarity with user experience principles and data-driven design approaches.
• Background in innovation, research and development, or product prototyping environments.
• Proficiency in the German language is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted tools and methodologies to boost experimentation, delivery speed, and quality.

Location

This position is fully remote but candidates must be located within Ireland.

Hiring Process

The recruitment involves initial application screening, online aptitude test, interviews focusing on people & culture and technical skills, a take-home exercise, followed by a final technical interview.
