Job description
Position Overview
The Food & Beverage Captain role requires effective communication with chefs and stewards to coordinate service for functions. The captain is responsible for preparing total charges and presenting bills to group contacts, ensuring banquet rooms and events are set up and ready for service. Ensuring proper table centerpieces and checking the cleanliness and presentation of all tableware prior to use is essential. The captain must confirm guest satisfaction regularly and make necessary accommodations for meal requirements including allergies and special dietary needs.
Primary Duties
- Communicate service requests to kitchen and steward teams during events.
- Calculate total charges for group events and handle billing with group representatives.
- Prepare banquet rooms, restaurants, and coffee breaks to meet service standards.
- Set tables following event type and company standards, including proper centerpieces.
- Examine all china, glassware, and silverware for cleanliness and presentation.
- Check in with guests to ensure their service satisfaction and address concerns.
- Convey additional meal instructions such as allergies or special requests to the kitchen staff.
- Maintain cleanliness of workspaces throughout the day.
- Adhere strictly to company safety and security policies; report any accidents or unsafe conditions to management.
- Complete mandatory safety training and maintain professional appearance and uniform standards.
- Protect company information confidentiality and safeguard assets.
- Welcome and acknowledge guests politely and professionally in keeping with company standards.
- Maintain clear and professional communication, including telephone etiquette.
- Foster positive working relationships and a cooperative team environment.
- Ensure compliance with quality expectations and service standards.
- Physically able to move, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds and able to stand or walk for prolonged periods.
- Perform additional reasonable duties as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Minimum education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least two years of related experience in food and beverage service.
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
- No specific license or certification required.
