Job description

Job Overview

This role supports the SH Safety function to ensure a safe working atmosphere throughout the plant by rigorously applying UltraTech Cement Limited's safety protocols and fostering a strong culture of safety, aiming for zero incidents.

Context and Challenges

The role faces challenges including a floating workforce, limited safety awareness among contractor workers, truck drivers transporting cement and clinker not fully aligned with safety requirements, inadequate proactive job planning, and ineffective implementation of audit findings both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate personal commitment by conducting safety observation rounds and CFSA at workplaces, regularly reporting near misses, OPLs, and Kaizens.
  • Identify hazards and opportunities for improvement, and ensure compliance with corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety performance targets such as zero fatalities and a lost-time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) of 0.22, including adherence across Fatality Evaluation (DFE), Operations (OP), and Special Projects (SP).
  • Develop safety procedures by investigating and analyzing incidents to establish standardized safety practices, including reviewing Joint Consultation Committee (JCC) activities.
  • Prepare for and participate actively in sub-committee activities, FPSA and SPSA audits, ensuring 100% compliance with findings within deadlines.
  • Ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 precautions issued by management, both onsite and offsite.
  • Promote environmental sustainability practices by encouraging manpower to protect natural resources.
  • Attend 100% of Key Functional Area (KFA) and Group Review Team (GRT) meetings, contributing ideas for new technologies, innovations, and improvements.
  • Support immediate supervisors in preparing daily control meeting (DCM) presentations and monitor compliance with DCM, fire risk audits, and related recommendations.
  • Qualitatively assess incident investigation reports submitted by line functions.
  • Conduct safety awareness programs including motivational sessions, Fire Service Day celebrations, monthly safety theme campaigns, and daily on-site training using mobile vans.
  • Develop and implement best practices to eliminate risks with fatality potential.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to UTCL employees, safety stewards, and contractor personnel through various media or third-party organizations at no cost, fostering skill development and initiating process improvements within the department.
