Firmware Engineering Manager

About the Role

Join Trimble's Civil Construction Field Systems (CCFS) team in Christchurch, New Zealand, as a Firmware Engineering Manager. You will be at the forefront of shaping technical direction and leading a dynamic team responsible for embedded firmware that leverages advanced sensor technologies like IMU, GNSS, and laser systems. Your work will directly impact the development of leading-grade control and automation solutions for heavy equipment, improving operator efficiency and precision.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a talented engineering team in delivering resilient embedded systems.
• Oversee the entire firmware development process, from hardware bring-up to production release.
• Partner closely with product managers and system architects to convert complex product requirements into clear technical plans.
• Act as a senior mentor and technical escalation resource for challenging system issues.
• Promote continuous improvement by implementing best practices in software development, including modern CI/CD workflows.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams, including hiring and staff development through coaching.
• Strong coding expertise in C, C++, and Python.
• Practical experience with Embedded Linux environments, build systems such as Yocto Project, and debugging hardware interfaces.
• A bachelor’s degree in Software, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Familiarity with modern engineering tools including Git, Jira, and automated Continuous Integration processes.
