About the Role

The Applied Scientist will be integral to Dialpad's AI team, focusing on research and development to create next-generation autonomous voice agents and features analyzing transcribed voice and chat data within business communications. The position involves work on cutting-edge projects such as multi-modal, real-time agentic systems that can interpret, reason, and act during live calls, as well as developing knowledge retrieval systems to provide live coaching support for sales and customer agents. Collaboration across engineering, design, and product teams is essential to deliver innovative solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design and fine-tune advanced NLP and ML algorithms for Dialpad's product suite.
• Thoroughly evaluate model performance and troubleshoot issues with an emphasis on business impact.
• Handle extensive textual datasets effectively.
• Develop sophisticated large language model-based features including reasoning, multilingual, and multimodal processing capabilities.
• Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to deploy and scale AI models within production environments.
• Publish research findings in top academic venues and engage with the scientific community via peer reviews.

Required Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related disciplines.
• At least 2 years of NLP experience in industry for Master’s degree holders, or a minimum of 1 year for those with a PhD.
• Proficient with machine learning frameworks and programming, particularly Python and PyTorch.
• Comprehensive knowledge of large language model architectures and techniques for tuning and optimization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.
• Effective communication abilities and proven experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with Git and version control for collaborative development.

Compensation

For exceptional candidates located in Ontario, Canada, the salary range is approximately CAD 145,500 to CAD 172,500 annually (base salary only). This reflects role, level, location, and other factors including skills and experience. Additional compensation may include bonuses, equity, and benefits as part of Dialpad’s total rewards.
