About the Role

Join Jensen Hughes in Auckland as an experienced Fire Engineer, where you will do more than prepare reports—you will lead projects, engage directly with clients, address complex fire safety issues, participate in site visits, and mentor upcoming engineers. This role offers the chance to shape fire engineering practices within New Zealand and collaborate globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical aspects of fire safety engineering projects from start to finish.
  • Develop and evaluate fire safety solutions that comply with the New Zealand Building Code and related standards.
  • Engage with clients and project teams to understand issues and provide clear, practical fire safety advice.
  • Innovate by questioning traditional methods to deliver optimal safety outcomes.
  • Conduct site inspections during construction and after completion.
  • Prepare and evaluate detailed technical documentation including reports and assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify improvements that enhance client results without compromising safety or compliance.
  • Establish and maintain strong client and industry partnerships.
  • Represent the company at industry events and client engagements.
  • Support brand growth and market presence in New Zealand.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers to build future fire engineering talent.
  • Work collaboratively within both local and global teams of technical experts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or related engineering fields; a Master's in Fire Engineering is preferred.
  • Prior experience in fire engineering or fire safety compliance.
  • Strong familiarity with New Zealand Building Code and applicable fire safety standards.
  • Proven ability to manage complex fire safety projects and craft practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills suitable for explaining technical details to varied audiences.
  • Experience in professional relationship building and client management.
  • Collaborative attitude with readiness to engage with industry-leading professionals.
  • Creative and critical thinking to challenge existing practices for improved outcomes.
  • Interest in mentoring less experienced engineers.
