Job description

Overview

Windcave is seeking a proactive Mechanical Engineer capable of designing and developing payment terminals and embedded electronics utilized globally by merchants. The position suits an intermediate-level professional ready to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Role Responsibilities

You will take responsibility for mechanical design tasks spanning concept creation through to manufacturing, supporting the engineering group and existing product lines. Your designs will be subject to evaluation for reliability and security conforming to strict standards like PCI PTS, requiring problem solving and justification of design decisions. Additionally, you will support Sales and Quality Assurance to maximize product performance for customers.

Collaboration and Reporting

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, collaboration with Hardware, Software, Testing, and Manufacturing teams will be essential to success in this role.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of five years experience in research and development environments
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited institution
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work efficiently across functions
  • Flexibility to contribute at all project stages, from maintaining drawings to leading product initiatives
  • Expertise with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to engineer mechanical parts and assemblies for complex electronics and consumer devices utilizing best practices and problem-solving techniques
  • Proven capability to navigate regulatory standards focusing on environmental, reliability, safety, and security aspects
  • Experience designing plastic housings for electronics
  • Strong understanding of assembly techniques, manufacturing design, and testing processes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of material science and manufacturing such as injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, and machining
  • Hands-on workshop skills for prototype creation, mock-ups, test fixtures, and development samples
  • Outstanding time management and organizational abilities
  • Meticulous documentation expertise, including maintaining and creating specifications, mechanical drawings, installation instructions, regulatory filings, and bills of materials for products, parts, and assemblies
